Week 3 EOC : My Demographics

My Demographics are as follows:

I am a Millennial (or Generation Y). What this is said to mean is that they have a massive amount of combined spending power, and grew up in the fluency and comforts of digital technology. The Millennials were the first generation of individuals who grew/grow up in a world filled with computers, tablets, mobile phones, satellite TV, iPods (and other handheld music devices), and social networking. Currently the millennials tend to be the highest targeted marketed audience.
On top of this the generation is in the center of the non-traditional family time of life. The majority of these households are more and more commonly non-traditional households which vary from living situation to living situation. The majority of the households have both parents working full time and the generation is built on easy access to everything including ordering groceries online and having them delivered to your door while you work. The other parts of the population involves telecommuting and working from home through your computers and internet connectivity. This changes the way that even city and housing markets are affected because you no longer necessarily need to live in an area to work in an area. This generation of individuals also includes the highest educated rates of all time, and has increased diversity throughout the country.

The increased diversity involves an adaptive marketing strategy that encompasses marketing to different cultures and generations within that culture as well as the main-stream marketing techniques. “The U.S. population is about 65 percent white, with Hispanics at 15 percent and African Americans at a little less than 13 percent. The U.S. Asian American population now totals about 4.5 percent of the population, with the remaining 2.5 percent made up of American Indian, Eskimo, Aleut, or people of two or more races.” (Armstrong, Gary, and Philip Kotler. Marketing: An Introduction, 10th Edition. Pearson Learning Solutions, 2010. VitalBook file). The increased diversity in the market isn’t entirely racial either. There are a ton of new marketing campaigns to include exclusive lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender targeted advertisements by a large scale of varying companies.

As for how my demographic fits with me personally – it matches pretty well with a few flaws here and there. I did grow up with computers in the household and school, but I didn’t actually have them in school or in the home until I was in my teenage years. I did learn the content quickly because it was required not because it was an everyday occurrence but because it had become common practice for all my friends. I myself didn’t have time and didn’t use technology outside of a mobile phone until I was in college. I only used a cellphone because in order to help my parents support me and my siblings I had to maintain a full-time job in hours outside of school or starve. That is the main factor that doesn’t agree with my family compared to others. We didn’t have money growing up, and my parents frequently couldn’t make all the bills and therefore as soon as I turned 16 in order to help feed my siblings I had 3 jobs, worked 40-50 hours a week and went to high school full time. I never had spending money, and didn’t have time to go out with friends much.

Week 3 EOC : Making Money for Good

Bogo Bowl

"We see this one all too many times: animals who can barely walk because they are weak from lack of nutrition and water. These animals whose skeletons seem to almost pierce through their skin gobble down their food as if it's their last meal. Their skin droops off their bones due to dehydration. Surprisingly, many of these animals maintain their affection towards people. What a terrible way to live and die. Animal Control has picked up too many of these victims: alive and dead. Some victims are found dead still chained up in their own back yard. Starvation is not just caused by a lack of food and water, but by improper food, untreated disease, and parasites (like worms) - all conditions that can be controlled with proper treatment and care." (http://www.cityofboston.gov/animals/abuseneglect/starvation.asp)

BOGO Bowl is a company who makes pet food for dogs, and cats of various ages. The policy at their company is to deliver non byproduct healthy foods to animals and for every bag of food you buy in stores or online they donate another bag of premium dog food to local animal shelters and to foster families for animals. The program itself came about back in 2009 when Sara, a Pet Project founding member, helped research information to figure out what the main causes of families giving pets up was. What they found out was that the majority of pets returned to shelters have the biggest issue affording the food, and/or litter, for their pets. There are also a ton of big struggles with the animal shelters needing food and support that they don’t always get consistently. “Sara quickly discovered there are some programs to help shelters get the food they need for their charges, but not everyone is eligible and there’s not always enough to go around. And it is muchharder for pet pantries to get food support. So she wondered if she could leverage the dollars she was spending feeding her own dogs (see below) to help the pantry. Surprise! Yes, she could. And that’s how – and why - BOGO Bowl came to be.” (http://www.bogobowl.com/aboutus.asp

The company itself has many aspirations about keeping pets fed throughout the country and if you want to support the organization itself it is as easy as buying the pet food you already get for your dog or cat. The company even offers free shipping to its customers and risk free trials to see if your picky pet will enjoy the food itself. Perhaps the best thing yet about the company is you, the customer yourself, gets to choose which local organization your donated bag of food gets to go to. This means that you can donate food to your favorite shelter in your neighborhood. “[Sara] Henderson’s biggest goal is that no animal shelter, rescue or pantry in the U.S. has to pay for food ever again.” (http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/local/des-moines/2014/09/30/des-moines-business-spotlight-bogo-bowl-pet-food/16399921/)

Week 1 EOC - My Voice

I am a jack-of-all-trades kind of individual. I love to learn, and get bored with almost everything after a certain amount of time. I have experience in Graphic Design, Web Design, Marketing, Retail, Fast Food, Freelancing, Photography, and many other items and sub-categories as well. I have restored crumbling pictures from the 1940s in order to be presented on printed canvas for a private function, and have helped to increase the SEO of a couple different smaller business’s websites. I am currently a Web Development and Design student at the Art Institutes in Las Vegas, and have two minors from previous schools in Digital Photography/Editing and Philosophy. I do quite a bit of research in my spare time for my freelance clients who are a new generation of marketable content. They are online streamers and require various branding needs, logos, and overlays and description content for their pages based off of their personalities. I will do everything I can in life that interests me, but at the same time I won’t lift a finger to do something I don’t really want to do. I usually stay separate from political or personal causes because remaining uninvolved helps keep my sanity intact.
